Using this editor

Make a quick change to a document

Use this editor to update a letter, tidy up meeting notes, or draft a document from scratch. Open a DOCX file from the File tab, make your changes, then choose Download DOCX to save a separate copy. Opening a file here does not overwrite the original.

What carries over from your original?

DOCX import brings the document into this editor's formatting model. Check headings, tables, links, and page layout after opening it. Tracked changes, fields, and complex desktop layouts may not survive a round trip. For a document whose exact appearance matters, compare the exported copy with the original before sending it.

You can also open RTF, HTML, plain text, and Markdown files. The download is DOCX regardless of the input format; changing the extension of a file is not the same as converting it.

Keep a copy you can return to

Your document is processed in the browser, without a file upload to LocalOffice. Browser drafts are convenient, but they are not a backup: clearing site data or using another browser can make them unavailable. Download your work before closing the tab.
